After three years of fund raising SYCA opened the new centre, comprising of a club room/cafe, sports hall with stage, music studio, small meeting room, function room and offices for youth services , adminoffice, five-a-side/basketball court, new drive and parking for 28 cars in May 2010
Phase1 has seen the building of 4 new offices, lift shaft, lobby and remodelling of internal walls to form new toilets and showers, disabled toilet, cafe store, furniture store and admin office. Ground source heat pumps are installed to provide underfloor heating. We are already a carbon neutral building with ambitions to be a renewable energy flagship
Phase 2, which includes an outdoor gated 5-a-side/basketball play court and parking for 28 cars, sports hall/performance area with folding stage, clubroom with cafe facilities and upstairs function/homework room with adjoining coffee kitchen,is nearly finished. However we stilll need £50,000 of funding, some from local grants, and the rest to be raised from local sponsorship and events. We especially need money for a catering quality kitchen, a 6 person lift, new insulated roof for the sports hall.
We are pleased to be able to open the new centre this year to enable us to bring together people from all sections of the community in pleasant surroundings. We shall be opening a community café, run by disabled people, offering the sports hall with extending stage for our local football juniors, badminton, dance and drama groups.
We shall be providing a function room suitable for our craft group, games afternoon, 4pm Homework Club, training and exhibitions, and for hire.
Kirklees Young Peoples Service will be using the building three nights per week for youth activities.
